EDreams ODIGEO is strengthening its presence in Asia through a deal with Japan’s main travel search engine Travel.jp.

The European OTA has already started distributing its flight content on the platform and plans to completely integrate its flight inventory within the next few months.

Users searching for travel through Travel.JP will eventually have access to eDreams ODIGEO’s offering of more than 40,000 destinations and 450 airlines, with access to over 155.000 possible flight combinations.

The Japanese metasearch engine claims to reach more than 40% of the national metasearch traffic share.

Travel.jp is run by Venture Republic, owner of other leading travel brands such as Hotel.jp, Singapore-based Trip101 and Allstay in Korea.

Japan is one of the largest travel markets in the Asia-Pacific region and the fourth largest in the world.

With 143 websites across 44 countries, the eDreams ODIGEO group has had a presence in Japan since 2015 under the edreams.jp consumer brand.

The estimated number of Japanese travellers increased by 5.6% to reach 17.1 million in 2016, according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation. In addition, the number of international tourists to Japan grew 21.8% to 24 million.

eDreams ODIGEO Asia Pacific markets director, Helena Grba, said: “We are delighted to strengthen our presence in Japan with a leading player in the Japanese market.

“This agreement opens a major distribution channel for us, which will help us reach many more Japanese travellers in the future, who will be able to enjoy our wide range of international and domestic flights at the best prices.”
