The Travolution Awards 2014 – more reaction and video image montage

Travolution honoured one of the UK’s most successful travel pioneers as it handed out its 2014 awards.

Skyscanner chief executive and co-founder Gareth Williams took home the night’s most prestigious individual prize, the Travolution Achievement Award. He joins previous recipients including easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou, lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman and Kayak founder Steve Hafner.

Manchester-based online agency On The Beach, which is celebrating 10 years in business this year, was named Brand of the Year 2014.

Other notable victors included Lowcostholidays, which won the Best Use of Mobile and Best Travel Blog awards and whose brand campaign and social media manager, Jessica Whitworth, was named Rising Star of the Year.

The team at momondo, however, had the most to celebrate, scoring a hat-trick of wins with the Best Metasearch Site and Use of Social Media awards, and best Travel Deals Publisher for its sister brand Cheapflights.

Hugo Burge, chief executive of momondo Group, said: “I was over the moon to see our team’s efforts recognised at the Travolution Awards. I’m very thankful to the judges for their recognition with the hat-trick of awards we received – thank you. What a fun night, celebrating the successes in our great industry – an inspiration.”

Travelport’s development of its air fare merchandising platform, which helped it persuade Europe’s leading budget airline Ryanair to return to GDS distribution, saw it awarded the Best Technological Innovation gong.

Other winners included Affordable Car Hire for Best Trade Supplier, Attractiontx.co.uk for Best Attractions Website and Imagine Cruising for Best Cruise Website.

Robin Deller, managing director of Imagine Cruising, said: “In a busy online world it’s vital to stand out from the crowd and we are delighted to have been given this recognition at the leading UK online travel awards.”

Digital Trip, winner of Best Technology Product, said it was “genuinely thrilled to receive this industry recognition for our travel technology.”

Managing director Andy Speight, added: “Using our technology, small and medium-sized travel enterprises can level the playing field and operate online with all the sophistication of a big operator at a fraction of the cost.”

Sun Holidays, headline sponsor of the Travolution Awards, handed out five consumer voted awards.
