Travolution Awards: Lowcost, On The Beach, Hotel Tonight and Tui at the double
OTAs Lowcost Holidays and On The Beach each scooped two gongs at Monday’s Travolution Awards while mobile app Hotel Tonight and Tui were also double winners.
The awards, the last before Travolution prepares to mark its 10th anniversary in 2016, were held at The Ballroom on London’s South Bank for the second year.
More than 400 guests gathered to find out who won the 26 judged awards and the five consumer voted awards by readers of The Sun, the headline sponsor.
Lowcost took home the Best Blog, narrowly beating Ryanair, and Best Use of Data, award and On The Beach scooped the live-pitch Best Use of Search Engine Marketing award and Best Travel Agent Website.
Danny Catapano, online acquisition manager at On the Beach, said the award was the “icing on the cake” for the brand that floated on the London Stock Exchange in September.
“It’s been a great year,” he said. “We work brilliantly as a team and we have a lot more exciting stuff in the pipeline. We’ll be back next year for sure.”
Hotel Tonight, the mobile-only booking app, added Rising Brand of the Year to the award for Best Accommodation Website, the judges deciding that the rise of mobile had to be recognised in the sector categories.
Tui impressed judges with its progress, picking up the Best Use of Mobile award and best Tour Operator website for its Thomson brand, although the travel giant lost out to its great rival Thomas Cook in the consumer voted Holiday Website category.
Tui’s approach to mobile was also marked when Rising Star SiQing Lin, a key member of the team that has developed a new mobile platform, was announced as the winner from among a strong line-up of hopefuls who faced the judges.
Other winners included Feefo, who added Brand of the Year to their Rising Brand of the Year award in 2013, Momondo for best metasearch site, Best Deals Publisher
Travelzoo and the Best Trade Supplier award went to A2B Transfers.
Phil Norris, sales director at A2B, said: “This is the first time we have entered and we are absolutely delighted to win such a prestigious award.
“It is down to the hard work of our small team. We put a lot of effort into working with the trade – they are 98% of A2B’s business and we do not forget that.”
Mike Ferguson, senior business development manager at Skyscanner, which won the Best Flight Booking Website Award, said:
“We were so delighted. We’re honoured to have been among such a high calibre of shortlisted businesses and winners. Thank you and congratulations to all the other winners from the night.”
