Dealchecker has seen surge in last-minute travel searches post-World Cup

Traffic has risen 19% since the end of the football tournament in which England reached the semi-finals, the furthest the team had advanced since 1990.

Commentators had said the England team’s success, alongside a heatwave in the UK, was behind a slow-down in late holiday bookings for this summer.

Travel comparison site dealchecker.co.uk’s figures suggest there has been a pickup in last-minute bookings since the end of the World Cup.

Editor Rosie Panter said: “Since the end of the World Cup final and with school  summer break in full swing, we have seen a huge increase in search traffic, with many more travellers visiting our site to find the best deal for a summer, autumn or winter break.

“Traffic is currently up by more than 19% on previous weeks, it seems now the football is over UK travellers are focusing instead on the search for a bargain break.”

Dealchecker has updated its last minute holidays page with a calendar feature to check whether being flexible on departure dates can save holidaymakers money.

Panter added: “The calendar reveals the true value available to those who can be flexible on departure dates, it also suits spontaneous travellers who are just looking for some inspiration on where to go next or new places to explore at a great price.”
