Thomson opens its most technologically advanced high street travel agency yet

Virtual reality headsets have been introduced into the most technologically advanced yet Thomson high street store.

The new flagship outlet in the INTU Merry Hill shopping centre in Dudley, Birmingham, resembles more of an Apple store than a travel agency.

The Tui-owned tour operator and travel agent says the new design will “bring the holiday to life for its customers” be enhancing the face-to-face customer experience.

Design and features have been devised with customer input, Thomson said, including the popular digital interactive maps

These have now been rolled out for use by all customers at every stage of the customer journey rather than there only being one at the front of the store.

The interactive and touch screen maps help customers search for and narrow down their holiday choices, showcasing in-depth information on exotic destinations and inspirational videos of resorts and hotels.

In addition Thomson, visitors will be able to immerse themselves using virtual reality headsets which will allow them to enjoy a range of ‘taster’ experiences, such as a trip onboard the TUI Discovery cruise ship or viewing premium seats on 787 Dreamliners.

Customers are also being offered self-service computers to print boarding passes, do advanced passenger information and to pay off any balances.

Thomson has also developed a new customer appointment reservation system so customers can choose an allocated time, head off to continue their shopping and return for their dedicated slot.

“This flagship store launch underlines our commitment to retail and we are really excited to welcome people into the store to come and see what’s new and how our expert advisors can help them find their perfect holiday with the same great service and improved technology.”
